The Texas Wesleyan Lady Rams softball team swept the University of the Southwest Lady Mustangs in a doubleheader on Friday, finishing 5-1 the first game and 12-1 the second.
The Lady Rams capitalized on Friday’s wins to get yet another win on Saturday against the Lady Mustangs, finishing 6-2.
The Lady Rams are currently sitting at 17-19 overall and 11-10 in the Red River Athletic Conference.
Marissa Rangel, senior outfielder, said she felt that the team did well this weekend in the games.
“We played a very solid all-around game,” Rangel said.
The first game on Friday started slow with no runs until the third inning when the Lady Rams loaded the bases after a walk off hit to Courtney Orebaugh, senior outfielder, followed by singles from Raven Moreno, junior utility player, and Makelle Akin, senior outfielder. 
Orebaugh ran it in, and senior first baseman Christina Kelley’s ground ball pushed the score to 2-0.
In the fourth inning, Ashleigh Jiminez, senior second baseman hit a double, and the Lady Rams followed up with singles from Orebaugh, Akin and Rangel to bring the score to 5-0. The Lady Mustangs scored one run in the seventh inning.
Rangel said the team did well offensively.
“We were able to put up a lot of points on the board during these games,” Rangel said.
In the second game, the Lady Mustangs got one run at the top of the first inning, but were unable to score for the remainder of the game.
Consecutive singles from Ashley Seibel, sophomore second baseman, Orebaugh and Moreno put the Rams on top in the second.  The Lady Rams added RBIs from Akin and Rangel to extend the lead to 4-1.
The Lady Rams really broke things open in the fourth, sending 10 ladies to the plate and scoring six runs on six hits, including another two-run triple for Orebaugh. The team won 12-1.
Orenbaugh said she felt like the team really came out strong in every single game this weekend.
“Our hits are beginning to come together well. I think we just need to stay consistent for our next upcoming games,” Orenbaugh said.
Orebaugh had a career high at the plate, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.  Moreno added three hits in four trips to the plate.
During the last game on Saturday, the Lady Mustangs started first with a two-run homer in the first inning.
The Lady Rams answered back with an RBI single from Rangel, a bunt from Lindsay Cline, sophomore third baseman, and an RBI double from Jiminez.
The Lady Rams closed out the last innings of the game on top, finishing with a 6-2 win.
Rangel said she thinks the team has to bring a lot of eneregy.
“Next week’s games are really important to us. We need to stay consistent and strong in order to bring a lot of energy,” Rangel said.
Chelsea Boles, sophomore center fielder, said she thought the team did a great job at scoring at every opportunity.
“When we got a big lead, we didn’t slow down. We kept on scoring. We need to keep that momentum this week to get two more sweeps,” Boles said..
The Lady Rams’ next games will be against Northwood University at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Sycamore Park.
