The Texas Wesleyan men’s soccer team played their season opener against Dakota Wesleyan University Aug. 31 at Martin Field.
The Rams started their season with a home game win of 4-1.
Clay Lawson, senior defender and business management major, said he’s glad they won but there is room for improvement.
“Although we played well, we are nowhere near our full potential as a team,” Lawson said.
The Rams gained an early lead by scoring their first goal within the first 5 minutes of play.
TJ Romaguera, senior midfielder and criminal justice major, said scoring early gave the team a boost.
“One good thing was we showed that we could put the ball in the back of the net,” Romaguera said. “Scoring within the first five minutes is always a huge motivation to play.”
The Rams scored another goal and kept the Tigers off the scoreboard securing a 2-0 lead by the end of the half. In the second half, the Rams allowed only one goal and put away two more goals to end the game 4-1.
Victor Ordonez, senior midfielder and business management major, said he doesn’t think the team did as well as they usually do but still managed to come out with a win.
“We will keep on working hard to get to an untouchable level,” he said.
The Rams play again at 5:00 p.m. Sept. 7 against Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas.
