The Texas Wesleyan women’s basketball team played in their annual cancer awareness game against Bacone College Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
The Lady Rams took another win to make it a seventh game winning streak for them. Wesleyan won at home against the Lady Warriors, 78-69.
The Lady Rams held a double digit lead in just under 12 minutes in the first half and Andre’a Davis, senior guard, led the team with 10 assists for the game and adding seven points and 5 rebounds. Wesleyan had plenty of steals thanks to their intense defensive and easy lay-ups that help them gain an even bigger lead by half time. The Lady Rams entered half time up by a score of 44-25.
Most of the second half of the game was led by the Lady Rams in double digits leads until just under five minutes when the Lady Warriors decided to make the game closer. Bacone College went on a 10-2 run and allowed themselves to get back in the game and were only down by three (70-67) with three minutes left in the game.
Wesleyan did not let the pressure crack them because the Lady Rams came back on an 8-2 run which sealed the deal and won the game 78-69. Kayla McCray, junior forward, led the both teams in scoring with 26 points of the game, five rebounds, and one assist.
Overall the Lady Rams are 19-7 and 14-5 in the Red River Athletic Conference. The Lady Rams will play again Feb. 18 at 5:30 p.m. against Louisiana State University-Shreveport in Shreveport, Louisiana.
