The softball team at Texas Wesleyan traveled to Langston University to continue their swing in the Red River Athletic Conference. The Lady Rams played in three games and came up short; 9-1, 5-4, and 13-12.

By the first inning in the first game of the series, The Lady Rams were up 1-0. It didn’t take long for the Lady Lions to follow Wesleyan’s lead. Shortly after the Lady Lions scored, they continued to put runs on the board. In two more innings the new score was 4-1. The Lady Rams could not seem to gain another run and finished the game behind 9-1.

In the second game of the series, the Lady Rams played a much closer battle against LU. Cheyenne Brown, senior right handed pitcher, Bailey Stokes, freshmen first basemen, and Emily Burch, senior third basemen, all contributed in the first inning to give the Lady Rams a quick 3-0 lead. The Lady Lions scored once in the bottom of the inning making it a 3-1 game. Kylie Sumners, junior third basemen, added another run to give the Lady Rams an even bigger lead of 4-2. The Lady Lions fought their way to the top by scoring three runs in the seventh inning. The Lady Rams fell 5-4.

The last game of the series was just as close as the game before. Burch, Brown and Sara Sandercock, junior utility player, got the Lady Rams to a 4-0 lead in first inning. Just like the game before, the Lady Lions fought right back adding three runs to their scoreboard. By the fifth inning it was still a close lead, Wesleyan up 6-5. The Lady Lions kept answering to every run the Lady Rams had. By the end of the sixth inning, it was tied 6-6 and the game went into extra innings.

By the eighth inning, the Lady Rams held a 12-9 run until the Lady Lions hit a three-run home run to take the win from the Lady Rams 13-12.

Raven Moreno, senior utility player, said although they got swept they learned from the situation.

“The games did not go well at all,” Moreno said. “We got swept but we did fight the last game and now we know we can’t take any team lightly.”

The Lady Rams play again Mar. 7 at 5 p.m. in Fort Worth, Texas against Benedictine University.
