The Texas Wesleyan softball team earned an important sweep over the Easter holiday against Houston-Tillotson University Mar. 29 and 30 in Austin, Texas. The Lady Rams won all three games 3-2, 12-0 and 5-4.
The first two games were played on Mar. 29 and the first game the Lady Rams were down for the first half of the game. The game remained scoreless until both teams scored in the third inning. Wesleyan gained one run while the HTU Lady Rams scored two. Meagen Alvarez, junior outfielder, tied the game in the sixth inning extending the game to 10 innings.
The Lady Rams scored their winning run in the 10th inning with the help of Cheyenne Brown, senior pitcher, and Kendall Kizer, sophomore second baseman, gaining the winning run for Wesleyan.
In the second game, it went very different. The Lady Rams shut down HTU. This game only lasted half of the innings the first game did, only going to five. Brown, Kali Jestser, junior utility player, Alexis Beltran, junior pitcher, and Ashely Seibel, junior second basemen, all contributed to the 12-0 run Wesleyan went on. The Lady Rams were on fire scoring runs in all the innings except for the fourth.
Raven Moreno, senior utility player, said the team came together during the series.
“We did a great job as a team, came together, did the job and got the three wins,” Moreno said. “We needed it.”
The last game was played on Mar. 30 and the HTU Lady Rams took a quick 4-1 lead. When the Lady Rams got to the fifth inning, all that changed. Emily Burch, senior third basemen, started the come back with a single but HTU made an error allowing Wesleyan to gain 2 runs.
Brown hit a single in the seventh inning to tie the game while Sebiel finished it off with the winning run. HTU Lady Rams could not come up with another score so the Lady Rams took the sweep 5-4.
The Lady Rams will play again starting Tues. April 2 at 5 p.m. at Sycamore Park in Fort Worth, Texas.
