Texas Wesleyan’s men’s soccer team is currently 2-2 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, and fighting for each win, one by one.

Team captain Marko Jovanovic, a senior finance major, said the team needs to work hard toward their goals together, and as individuals.

“It’s all about mentality,” Jovanovic said. “It’s not about winning small games. We have to strive.”

Though the team is 2-2, Jovanovic is proud of everyone, especially the freshmen.

“As a senior, I’m really happy to see the type of mentality we have, especially from the freshmen,” he said.

Jovanovic compared the Rams to a puzzle, saying all the little pieces need to work together to make “the big puzzle.”

Starter Hans Soland, a freshman biology major, believes the team needs to go into games with a stronger mindset, instead of assuming they will “stomp teams.”

“I’m keeping up the hard work and putting in the hours in training,” Soland said.

Soland’s goal is to go to the national tournament, and his teammate, Micah Day, a junior business major, believes it can happen if the team focuses on the task at hand, or foot, first.

“I had experience in junior college winning conference, then regionals, and heading to nationals,” Day said. “We focused on winning conference, and then regionals, and then nationals.”

Day thinks that if the team takes the small steps first and plays hard each game, then the wins will come along with it.

The Rams will be back on the field Wednesday, when they take on Southwestern Assemblies of God University, in Waxahachie, at 3 p.m. For more information, go to ramsports.net.
