A Saturday memorial service has been scheduled for Texas Wesleyan student Jody Smith, according to a university official.

Smith’s memorial is 4 p.m. Saturday at the Shenandoah Townhomes Club Complex, 1151 Remington Circle in Burleson, according to an email sent out Friday by Dean of Students Dennis Hall.

“Our thoughts are with her friends and family,” Hall wrote in an email on Thursday.

An obituary printed Thursday in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram said that Smith died April 23 and was 47 years old. No cause of death was listed.

Smith started in the counseling graduate program in 2014, Hall wrote Thursday.

Hall added that Smith “has been described as the consummate student who was always prepared, engaged in class, and exceeding expectations.”

Hall wrote Friday that Smith’s family has requested attendees at the memorial service “wear bright and funky clothes. If you wear Sunday type church clothes, you will be stared at.”
