On Thursday, Sept. 25, at the Meet Your Major event, students had the opportunity to informally chat with faculty from the various majors and minors Texas Wesleyan has to offer.
Students who decided to change or declare a new area of study were brought onto a stage and celebrated with confetti and cowbells in the Martin University Center ballroom. Joe Thomas, now a general business major graduating in 2029, was one of those students.
“These people are here to support us. I don’t feel like I have to figure it out myself,” Thomas said. “I’m just excited to have the opportunity in the resources to be presented to me.”
Caroline Reinhold, an academic advisor who created and planned this event, emphasized the significance of choosing a major since it will determine a student’s college experience.

“I wanted to really celebrate that and make that a bigger moment for the student,” Reinhold said. “Normally whenever a student changes or adds a major or a minor, they go to their academic advisor, they sign a form, and that’s the end. That’s something that will change who they make relationships within college, what kind of job they get; it’s a huge part of the college experience.”
Reinhold also wanted to create a comfortable and fun environment for students to come by with their friends and learn about opportunities they haven’t considered previously. There were pizza, bingo and prizes for everybody who came by.
Israel Sanchez, a graduate student studying Computer Science, came by to enjoy the games and food. He encourages younger students to attend these kinds of events he didn’t get to experience.
“I didn’t have this [event] before, and I wish that I had, it’s definitely good for new students,” Sanchez said.

He continued by sharing His advice for those just starting college is to attend many events like these. “You get out of college what you put into it,” he said.
The next Meet your Major event won’t be for another year, but if you want to meet and talk with your advisor, visit the EAB Navigate website to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are also possible on the right side of the first floor of the library. To stay informed on upcoming events, you can visit Ramspace.
