On Feb 5. Texas Wesleyan Lady Rams lost to the Southwestern Christian College Eagles in the Sid Richardson Gymnasium [47-50].
In the closing seconds of the game, the Lady Rams fell short due to a review of a foul that was called with just a second left, resulting in a game winning shot being taken away. Coach Scott Hyland talked about how they should’ve won.
“This was a game that we felt like, again, we should win on our home court. We felt like if we play to our ability, as a team we should be able to beat and for three quarters, we were that team,” Hyland said.
In the first three quarters, the Lady Rams were on a roll, keeping a lead and making sure the defense was at its best.
“Our defense was solid. I mean, we played a good full three quarters, so I think it just slipped away. Just silly turnovers, silly mistakes,” senior guard Kayla Fuller said.
The Lady Rams had a good defensive showing in the first three quarters keeping a lead against the Eagles. When the fourth quarter began, Southwestern Christian College raised their defense and forced Lady Rams turnovers.
“It’s kind of been the story of our season; we just can’t put a full four quarters together and as soon as an opponent starts cranking up the pressure on us defensively, we’ve got a tendency of making mistakes, taking bad shots, turning the ball over, and it leads to easy scores,” Hyland said. “You saw that here in the fourth quarter, we turned it over 10 times ,” Coach Hyland said.
The Lady Rams went on to play Oklahoma City University on Feb. 7 on the road. They ended with a win [68-57].
The Lady Rams’ next game is against the University of Science and Arts (Okla.) on Feb. 12 at home in the Sid Richardson Center.
