Hope 4 Kids held their annual Easter Egg Hunt in the Martin University Center (MUC) on Saturday, April 4.
Children and their families participated in games and activities and received essentials such as food, toiletries and clothing at the free event. Hope 4 Kids is a non-profit that “aims to support vulnerable families and children in Southeast Fort Worth”, according to their website.
“It was beautiful,” Hope 4 Kids Founder Rose Braziel said about the event and its impact. “I grew up like this, not having things, so I know how it feels.”
The event, initially planned for outdoors, was moved inside the MUC because of rainy weather.
“I came to this event since it was inside, and it was raining outside,” Karina Chavez, a mother of three, said. “There was a lot of other events, but I’m not sure if they canceled. I decided this was the best one for the kids.”
The event was organized by a team of volunteers, 17 of which were Texas Wesleyan students participating in a service-learning project—a teaching approach that combines curriculum with community service. Sophomore theatre major Scooby Davis was one of those student volunteers.
“It was actually cool to see them [the] kids running around and getting their eggs,” Davis said. “I’d probably do it again if I had the time.”
The event culminated in an egg hunt on the Martin University Center’s second floor, where plastic eggs filled with candy were scattered across the floor, hidden beneath chairs, and tucked within door frames.
“I had to run a lot,” Lala, a 9-year-old egg hunter, said. “It was really fun, I loved it.”
