Rams use new smart TVs in classrooms

Dr. Alan Henderson of Psychology uses the smart TV to get ready for class.

This semester the technology department has added Smart TVs to several classrooms.

Because these TVs were installed at the last minute, faculty were not trained in how to use them.

“Teachers spend half of the class trying to get the boards to work,” junior psychology major Bailey Bollman said.

The lack of training concerned other students as well.

“Teachers need accurate training on these boards, not just the first week of class to learn them,” junior music major Sidney Reené said.

While concerns were raised, others disagreed and believed the boards helped the learning environment.

“This allows my teacher to not stand behind a stand and lecture, but move around freely to engage with students,” first-year computer science major Jake Miller said.

A training session was held Sept. 5 to teach faculty more about the technology.

MaKayla Banks is a broadcast manager for the Rambler at Texas Wesleyan University. She is currently a sophomore majoring in psychology, hoping to go into counseling psychology where she will work at a children’s psychiatric hospital. She was born and raised in the Dallas area.
