TXWES VolunteerLink hosted Texas Wesleyans’ Day of Service on Friday, Nov. 14th; the event brought students and faculty together to keep our community beautiful.
TXWES VolunteerLink partners with local organizations to host a day of service at Wesleyan once a semester. Friday’s partner, Keep Fort Worth Beautiful, provided the equipment used to collect litter down Rosedale St., Collard St. and Vaughn Blvd.
Dwala Chandler, director of service learning, led the event and spoke about how she has seen the community change as a result.
“We’re all together, we’re all in this community, making sure that we continue to be connected, we continue to help one another,” Chandler said
Junior biochemistry major Alexander Murphy attended the event and shared what he learned about the community.
“I think it shows that there are people in the Wesleyan college that care about their area, their environment and are happy to help out those in need,” Murphy said.
Senior religion major Malachi Redhead was also at the event and shared why he chose to attend.

“I would say the Day of Service, it’s a humbling experience, because it’s not only about you in that particular moment, it’s about other people and the people that live in that community,” Redhead said.
After the event, there was talk about boosting the engagement and availability of other members of the TXWES community.
“We want to involve more community, but also the possibility of including our alumni as well,” Chandler said.
The day of service concluded with ten bags of litter collected, and students feeling the impact of their involvement.
“I enjoyed seeing so many people out there, and I enjoyed being able to hopefully make a little bit of a difference,” Murphy said after the event.
