Texas Wesleyan’s Black Student Association (BSA) will be hosting a Film Night in partnership with the Fort Worth Film Club on Wednesday, Feb. 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Science Lecture Hall.
The evening will highlight the significance and impact of Black-led films in celebration of Black History Month. BSA opens the environment to all Texas Wesleyan students, along with their discussions and ideas. The movie won’t be revealed until the night of the event.
“We wanted to highlight black films for Black History Month. We thought a great way to showcase community and joy would be through a movie screening,” said BSA President Nijah Akpan, senior psychology major.
BSA will be showing one film that highlights Black culture and its significance within the Black community. The event will be accompanied by refreshments and a collaborative discussion space.
“We wanted to avoid showing Black struggles. We want to show films that can showcase our culture and community,” said BSA Vice President Dominique Sanders, senior psychology major.
BSA’s hosting partner for this event, Fort Worth Film Club, was founded in 2022. They host monthly, free to the public screenings of films, mainly of cultural and community significance. For this event, in partnership with BSA, students can attend a free film showing followed by a brief discussion.
“I believe we can expect many great things from Fort Worth Film Club in the future. The discussions before the film are great for learning opportunities,” said BSA Secretary Nya John, senior psychology major.
