The TxWes Entrepreneurship Network will host its second major event of the semester on Dec. 2 from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. in the Jack Morton Business Accelerator Room, located across Rosedale Street. With free tacos, a guest speaker, and hands-on networking, the event aims to help students discover entrepreneurial skills they may not realize they already possess.
The club is launching the event as part of its new campaign, “Did You Know? You’re Already an Entrepreneur!” which encourages students from every major to explore creativity, confidence and problem-solving.
“We believe being entrepreneurial is exercising a set of skills that everyone already has,” said Ariana Martinez, a freshman supply chain management major and the club’s chief marketing officer. “Skills like negotiating, public speaking, and presenting yourself. They’re things students use every day, and we want them to see that these skills already make them entrepreneurial in their own way.”
Organizers said the event will highlight practical skills through a presentation from Dr. Heida Reed, Texas Wesleyan visiting professor of business administration, and a presentation from Jonathan Fellers, senior management and marketing double major and CEO of the Entrepreneurship Network.
“We want to bring inspiration and give students firsthand experience,” Fellers said. “Hearing from Dr. Reed, learning about our LinkedIn strategies, and seeing what our C-suite interns actually do helps students understand how these skills translate into real opportunities.”
The planning reflects a larger mission to rebuild the Entrepreneurship Network, which Fellers said was inactive in past years.
“We want to help students see that they’re creative, collaborative and already have the spirit of entrepreneurship within them,” he said. “Whether someone dreams about starting a taco truck, opening a practice as a nurse, building a tech invention or launching a side hustle, that spark is already there. This event helps connect students to the possibilities and shows them the tools they already have.”
The event will take place in the Business Accelerator Room across from Rosedale, a space organizers say was chosen to elevate the experience.
“If you’ve never been in the accelerator room, it’s like walking into a boardroom,” Fellers said. “The venue itself inspires creativity, and we want students to feel like they’re stepping into a space where ideas can grow.”
Beyond the setting, the club aims to create a welcoming atmosphere where students can make connections, share ideas and learn from each other.
“This event will help you tap into your inner entrepreneur, which is inside all of us,” said Chelsea Calderon, a junior majoring in data analytics and general business and the club’s chief administrative officer. “Anyone who wants to explore creativity, problem-solving or innovative thinking can benefit from coming out. You don’t have to be a business student. You just have to be curious.”
Alongside the presentations, the event will offer interactive moments, leadership sign-ups and opportunities to connect with faculty advisors.
“Everyone belongs there, whether you believe it or not,” Martinez said. “We want students to walk in and feel like this is a place that can really benefit them.”
The Entrepreneurship Network plans to continue expanding after this event.
“This next event is kind of a culmination of what we’ve been able to build and put together,” Fellers said. “I really see this network growing into something that connects students, alumni and different departments across campus. With more members and more leadership, we can accomplish a lot together.”
For now, organizers said Dec. 2 is about helping students take that first step.
“We want students to walk in, feel welcomed and leave with new ideas they didn’t know they had.” Calderon said.
Students are encouraged to attend, enjoy tacos and participate in what the club hopes will become a staple event each fall.
