At 4:11 p.m., a campus-wide alert was sent notifying students that Texas Wesleyan will be closed from Friday, Jan. 23 at 6:00 p.m. to Monday, Jan. 26 at 8 a.m.
According to an email sent by Dean of Students Gary Stout, the status of Monday’s classes are under review. A decision will be made by Sunday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. based on relevant forecasts.
According to a winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service the storm will occur from Friday, Jan. 23 at 6:00 p.m. to Sunday, Jan. 25 at noon. 2-4 inches of sleet and snowfall are expected in Fort Worth throughout the duration of the storm, per the National Weather Service.
Many students welcome the possibility of Monday class cancellations.
“I hope they do because it does get pretty iffy, in the morning especially for commuter students. Last year I was driving to school in the ice which was kind of freaky a couple of times,” senior English major Keith Hilliard said. “I feel like it’s better to be safe than sorry.”
Senior marketing major Isabel Payan had similar viewpoint.
“It’s too cold, I don’t think it’s worth the risk,” Payan said. “I don’t know how icy it is going to be on the roads. I’m a commuter and I wouldn’t wanna come here.”
Senior psychology major Diego Rodriguez was skeptical about the campus closing on Monday.
“I hope so but I doubt it. Texas is too nuts. It’s probably not going to be closed, but I hope so.”
