The Student Government Association (SGA) held a meeting on Monday, Nov. 3 to discuss, approve and annul funding for various student organizations and programs.
The costliest motion came with $1,000 in funding proposed for the TxWes Food Pantry. The funds would help to support increased traffic caused by the recent cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) caused by the ongoing government shutdown.
Alongside funding requests, the SGA board members developed future proposals. The proposed installation of feminine hygiene product dispensers sparked discussion. The proposal would see dispensers filled with menstrual products for emergency use installed in four to six restrooms throughout campus.
“The plan that I’m most excited to fund is the female hygienic plan,” SGA President Daylan Anderson Harris said. “A student reached out to me expressing her concerns that there’s not female hygienic [products] on campus.”

The plan would be implemented in Aug. 2026 pending approval from SGA, facilities and the university.
Additionally, a proposal for borrowable locks to be used in the Morton Fitness Center locker-rooms was introduced. The proposal would require $135 of funding and include 10 locks. The proposal has yet to be finalized and voted upon.
Other SGA funding approved during the meeting included:
- $580 to Athletics Department and School of Arts & Sciences for tabling supplies at ‘Light Up TxWes’
- $439 to Athletic Communications for wireless transmitters to improve gameday coverage
- $350 to the Entrepreneurship Network for officer development and attendance at a business startup convention
- $200 to Rams First for tabling supplies at ‘Light Up TxWes’
- $190 to Beta Gamma Sigma for a ‘Giving Back Christmas Party’
- $110 to Beta Gamma Sigma for a Thanksgiving event
“I like the fact that we are able to collaborate with all of the organizations [and departments],” SGA At-Large Representative Robert Tracy said. “We’re showing that we have an impact on campus.”
Following the meeting’s funding approvals, the SGA fall semester budget sits at $2,793.
SGA has two meetings remaining for the semester: Nov. 17 and Dec. 1. SGA meetings are open to the public and occur in the Student Leadership Chambers on the second floor of the Martin University Center from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
“Figure out who your representative is and reach out with concerns,” SGA Vice President Jeline Rivera said.
