Texas Wesleyan’s Music Department presented the annual President’s Honors Concert on Friday.
The 2015 edition of the concert showcased the talents of 13 students, playing selections from a variety of composers ranging from Mahler to Tchaikovsky to Mozart.
“The performance from tonight was absolutely fabulous,” said Wesleyan President Frederick G. Slabach. “It’s what we expect from our best music students at Texas Wesleyan. I’m proud of all of them and I’m really glad they had this opportunity to experience performing in a professional setting. The students were wonderful!”
The concert was originally scheduled for February, but had to be postponed due to the inclement winter weather.
“This evening’s performances are the result of many hours of hard work on the part of both the students and the faculty members who instruct them,” said Dr. Jerome Bierchenk, department chairman.
The students select music that is special to them. Music and psychology major David Walter, a baritone vocalist, performed Oley Speaks’ On the Road to Mandalay with pianist Julia Oh.
“Before my performance I was super nervous and reviewing the song in my head,” Walter said. “As soon as I got onstage and the music began I felt at home. The familiarity made it comfortable.”
The concert was followed by a reception at Lou’s Place.
