Winter weather conditions bring snowfall to Texas Wesleyan.

Texas Wesleyan will move to virtual learning and remote operation due to winter weather as of Tuesday, Jan. 16.  Dennis Hall, vice president for student affairs and dean of students, announced the online classes in a mass email around 3 p.m. Monday.

“Texas Wesleyan University will move to remote operation on Tuesday, January 16, due to winter weather,” Hall said in the email. Students are encouraged to check communications from their instructors regarding preferred delivery for each class.”

This statement came out in a timely fashion, which impressed students, especially since many are commuters or go home on the weekends.

“I’m honestly happy about having classes online tomorrow because I’m at my parent’s house, and the drive back to campus would be hard to make,” sophomore general business major Giovana Moro Pinto said.

Although some students said they do not enjoy online learning, they are relieved to be able to stay in from the cold.

“I was never the biggest fan of virtual classes, but I’m glad about this,” sophomore sports communication major Myles Curry said. I was not trying to walk to class in this cold weather, risking getting sick.,

First-year business major Kameron Shelton said, “The university should continue to look out for students because if it was super cold, students who are commuters would have the potential to hit patches of ice, or students walking from dorms could hit patches of ice on sidewalks.”

Hall said in the email that the university will continue to provide updates as they monitor the weather conditions.
