The Student Government Association and the Faculty Assembly will be meeting more often in an effort to create better dialogue between the two groups, representatives of both organizations said Thursday.
SGA President Tyler Mendez and Dr. Mark Hanshaw, chair of the Faculty Assembly, agreed during the SGA meeting that ongoing monthly meetings should improve communication.
“When I was an undergraduate at the University of Tennessee, I served as vice president on the student government,” said Hanshaw. “I know that the faculty and the students and the administration have an opportunity to work together and produce wonderful results on campus.”
Also during the meeting, SGA Vice President Abby Borghee discussed campus parking issues, including the possibility of creating a system of parking decals of various colors.
This, Borghee said, would make it easier for everyone to park in the right place.
“Some of the West Village residents have been parking in Stella Hall parking, which has made residents of Stella park at Elizabeth Hall, which I turn makes them have to par at O.C. Hall,” Borghee said. “I think this has been an issue in years past. It may be time to go ahead and get a new system underway.”
Victoria Thornton, the SGA representative for dining services, announced the dates for the tailgate events for the baseball and softball teams.
The baseball tailgate will be held at 3 p.m. on March 20, and the softball tailgate will be 5 p.m. on April 17. Both events will be held in Sycamore Park.
“We are in the process of finding food vendors for the tailgate right now,” Thornton said. “The dates were changed because they were originally scheduled for the Friday before spring break.”
