Women’s basketball head coach Bill Franey said Tuesday that he was surprised that the team had to forfeit four games this season.
Franey said that the forfeits were due to a player dropping below 12 hours of enrollment.
“We were having a great season, and all of a sudden we get those games taken away from us,” Franey said.
Franey declined to name the player.
The forfeited games were against the University of Science and Arts (Feb.7), Saint Gregory’s University (Feb.12), Southwestern Christian University (Feb.19), and Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Feb.28).
The forfeits dropped the Lady Rams’ record to 16-16.
The Lady Rams have won seven games by forfeit according to Sports Information Director Josh Lacy.
“The men’s basketball team forfeited one game to Dallas Baptist in January 1984,” Lacy wrote in an email. His records show no forfeit losses for the women’s team.
The most recent Wesleyan team to forfeit a game was the men’s soccer team, against Dakota Wesleyan in 2012, Lacy wrote. Wesleyan had won the game 4-1.
