Texas Wesleyan Football is ready for the first game of the season

The TXWES Football Team is preparing to play SAGU for the first game of the season.

Offensive Coordinator Kyle Cox has been preparing his offense for a war.

“We are really just wrapping up the first week of fall camp,” Cox said. “We are still focused on us and our scheme and our technique and the way we approach the game.”

Cox believes his team is in a great position to start the season.

“We’ve got a little confidence now, and that will only grow as we get closer to game time,” he said. “I think this year more than any other the Sooner Athletic Conference will be wide open.”

Senior Quarterback Justin Arth believes the first game will end on a positive note.

“The team has been getting real work in. We have been practicing lifting weights and meeting while keeping in mind the COVID protocols,” Arth said. “We have seen massive improvements on both sides of the ball, and we expect a great start to our elongated season.”

Arth believes game one of the season will set the tone for how the conference turns out.

“We think our chances are great to win conference,” Arth said. We are going to take each day and each game one step at a time.”

Arth believes execution on the field will lead the team to success.

“We need to start fast,” Arth said. “If we do what we are supposed to do in all three phases of the game, we will have a great first game and a terrific season.”

Offensive Lineman Jordan Higgins believes his team has been preparing well for the first game of the season.

“Obviously it’s tough because of all of the COVID protocols, but I think with everything going on, we’ve done really well with being focused and becoming a better team.”

Higgins is glad the season wasn’t canceled due to COVID-19.

“I think a lot of people had doubts about us playing,” Higgins said. “Fortunately for us players, everyone within the university is committed to playing and doing everything they can to let us do so.”

Higgins feels like this first game is very important for the TXWES rams.

“I think the first game of the season is always an important one but that’s only because it’s the next game,” Higgins said. “The game will be important until it ends and then our focus and preparation will move onto the next team and doing what we can to win.”

The first game of the season will be on October 17th against SAGU University.
