Students can pull out their Hawaiian shirts and ‘90s windbreakers because Texas Wesleyan’s Student Government Association is hosting Spirit Week from April 16 to 20, when students can dress up and win prizes.

SGA Secretary Alison Baron said she came up with the event because University College Day is on Wednesday and alumni weekend is later that week, and Wesleyan needs more spirit.

Students can pull out their Hawaiian shirts and ‘90s windbreakers because Texas Wesleyan’s Student Government Association is hosting Spirit Week from April 16 to 20, when students can dress up and win prizes.

“(It’s) just more days to have fun because I am really into the dress-up days,” Baron said.

Monday will be “‘Merica Monday.”

“Come dressed up in red, white and blue, stars,” she said. “The whole shebang.”

Tuesday is Tacky Tourist Tuesday.

“Get your fanny pack,” she said. “Get your floral shirts and just look like a typical Hawaiian dad.”

Wednesday is Wesleyan Wednesday as well as University College Day.

“Come out in your Wesleyan gear,” she said. “Greek letters, what have you, just school spirit day.”

Thursday is Throwback Thursday. Students can dress as their favorite decade. It’s also the day Wesleyan breaks ground on the Nick and Lou Martin University Center.

“Make sure you come out to that in your apparel,” she said.

Finally, Friday is Twin Day Friday. Baron said students need to post photos of their outfits on Instagram or Twitter using #TxWesSGA.

“At the end of the week, we will take the five people who have the most spirit, put them on our instagram page and whoever gets the most likes will win a grand prize,” she said.

Baron said her goal for Spirit Week is just to have fun.

“To increase SGA’s presence is something that I would like to do, but honestly just have fun,” she said.

Representative At-Large Ebaline Luna said Spirit Week is important because it will bring the student body together.

“It is just really important for the school to have school pride,” Luna siad.

SGA Chief Justice Sha’more Ellis Jones said it is essential SGA holds events like Spirit Week because the organization is supposed to be the beacon on campus.

“If we show our enthusiasm for the events that happen on campus, if we show that we are pro-Texas Wesleyan, especially with everything going on with the hours and stuff, it lets the students know that pretty much that we are there for them,” Ellis-Jones said.
