Campaign season has begun for Texas Wesleyan’s Student Government Association positions for the 2018-2019 school year.
SGA President Alyssa Hutchinson and At-Large Representative Jonathan Kigigha are running for president.
Hutchinson said she thinks she has done a good job as president this semester and she wants to continue the momentum.
“As president I plan on restructuring SGA, hopefully to make sure that there is a job for everything that actually matters,” Hutchinson said. “Sometimes I think we do things just for the sake of doing things.”
Kigigha wrote in an email that he wants to give students the voice that they deserve.
“As president, my mission will be to increase transparency between the campus administration and student body,” Kigigha wrote.
Voting will take place May 5-6 via an email from Vice President of Student Affairs/Dean of Students Dennis Hall. Winners will be announced before the end of the semester.
SGA Treasurer Nicholas Davis and International Students Representative Hasibullah Aimaq are running for vice president.
Davis said he wants to put the student back in student government.
“In my position I plan to hopefully get more students involved with SGA to bring us their own legislation, to have us do more resolutions,” Davis said. I know that like autism awareness month, we should recognize that as SGA. That would be super cool.”
Aimaq wrote in an email that as vice president he would focus on the tuition increase and 16-hour block rate change issues as well as informing students about other issues on campus.
“Being in shadows of previous leadership was useful experiences in terms of learning from their mistakes and what I would do is better,” Aimaq wrote.
At-Large Representative Francia Hernandez is running for treasurer. She wrote in an email that she wants to better the financial part of SGA.
“As SGA Treasurer, I would like to help build a more transparent bond with administration and students/organizations,” Hernandez wrote. “As well as informing more about funding students experiences and career development opportunities, whether that be through SGA or another source.”
Secretary Alison Baron is running for secretary again. She said she wants to return to her position because she likes it. She loves organization and keeping track of paperwork.
“At the beginning of the year, it just seemed like all the documents was a total mess and I know one of my goals this year, and I know no one cares about this, but I have been trying to get all the documents cleaner, and our archives to be nice,” she said. “It was a mess. We had no templates, no formats.”
