When Delaney Pricer graduated from high school, she was thought she would have to choose between her passions of theater and dance.  

Instead, she came to Texas Wesleyan and chose both. 

Pricer, a freshman theater major from Waxahachie, joined Theatre Wesleyan and spent her first year on the Gold Line dance team beginning in the fall of 2017. She plans on continuing to do both for the rest of her career at Texas Wesleyan. 

“Working with Delaney has been the most humorous, exciting, and memorable moments of my life,” said Gold Line Dancer and freshman education major Kayla Young. 

Pricer began dancing at the age of four and did not start acting until she was in sixth grade. She is the youngest of three siblings and the only one to pursue dance and theater.  

She has lived all over Texas in cities including Cedar Hill, Dallas, and Red Oak, but stayed planted in Waxahachie from sixth grade until the present day. She graduated from Waxahachie High School in 2017.  

She danced for a studio all throughout her life up until she got to high school. While in high school she tried dancing for both the studio and the Waxahachie Cherokee Charmers until that became too much to handle and she knew she had to drop the studio to focus on the drill team and competition team for Waxahachie High School.  

She says she was set on being on one Houston dance team the entire time she was in high school. However, she came to Texas Wesleyan because she remembered Gold Line head coach Emily Snow from the Collegiate Auditions for Showtime event in Houston every year that her coach took her team. 

“I just remembered Emily Snow in the back of my head,” Pricer said. 

Pricer said that Houston was far away from home and when she went there on a visit she knew it did not feel like home at all so she had to make a choice on what her options are.  

“Then my mom said, ‘Remember Emily Snow from Texas Wes, let’s go look at that school!’ And we did and I loved it there,” Pricer said.  

She missed the date of the Gold Line auditions because she was still in high school and had a lot going on. So she sent in a video audition a few weeks after the actual audition date and hoped for the best. Pricer said Snow was so happy to receive the video.  

“For the audition video, I had a solo that year that was half lyrical and half jazz,” Pricer said, “as well as submitting turns, leaps, and full Russians and tricks.” 

The day she graduated she found out she was accepted into Texas Wesleyan, Theatre Wesleyan and the Gold Line dance team.  

After graduation, she is looking into possibly going to Texas State University for their film school. If not, she says that she might go to New York and attend film school there. She said she likes how Texas State only takes eight people per year. 

“At Texas State, it’s more like they’re helping you,” Pricer said, “kind of like our Smaller. Smarter. concept, so that’s what I liked about it.” 

She is wanting to produce and direct movies in her future career. She still enjoys acting though, but not so much singing.  

As far as tryouts, she says she is more nervous for the team’s turnout rather than the actual tryouts because last year they had so many different dance styles come together on one team, which made it tough to piece group dances together.  

“Now we have a good mesh and we are all used to each other,” Pricer said, “so it will be interesting but also exciting to add new people and their styles to the team.” 

Gold Line dancer and freshman education major Kayla Young said working with Pricer has been great. 

“Working with Delaney has been the most humorous, exciting, and memorable moments of my life,” she said. 

Outside of dance and theater, Pricer likes to scrapbook because she is really crafty, as well as napping and being a part of her sorority, Lambda Tau Zeta. 

At the ADTS National Dance Competition in Denton in MarchPricer placed first division soloist. She said it is really hard to place because there are three places and 50 girls doing solos competing for those places. Pricer said it was really fun getting to compete on the collegiate level rather than a high school level, because she has been doing high school competitions for so long that it was a fun change. 

“Delaney is hard working and tries any skills that are given,” Katelyn Gordon, freshman business major and Gold Line dancer said, “and she doesn’t give up.” 

Pricer is excited for the 2018-2019 year of dancing on the Gold Line team alongside all of the newly added dancers and Snow.
