On Oct. 1, Texas Wesleyan’s Career Fair event will be held in Andrews Hall in theMartin University Center from noon to 2:30 p.m.
The Career Fair is a come-and-go event and a great place to come and seek professional opportunities and experiences. To prepare for the event come dressed to impress, have a resume and cover letter, along with some prepared questions so ask the different organizations about.
Jesse Albracht, director for employer engagement and student readiness, emphasized the importance of the career fair as a valuable opportunity for students at any stage of their job search.
“We’re going to have employers from across the DFW Metroplex coming to recruit for part-time full-time positions and then some internship opportunities as well. Learn more about the employers in the area and their job and internship opportunities,” Albracht said. “The career fair is for anyone if you’re not ready to apply for jobs or internships just yet, I still encourage them to prepare for the future.”
Kaja Brunzlow, junior majoring in mass communication, a member of the tennis team and a student assistant in the Career Services office, has advice for students planning on attending the Career Fair.
“Come, observe, experience, maybe even have conversations. Just put yourself out there! That might seem like a tiny step, but it is a step forward, so that is all that matters,” Brunzlow said. “Career Services will help you along the way to reach your goals and find your dream career.”
One of the many organizations attending the career fair is Project Transformation of Central Texas, which is actively seeking college students for its summer internship program, as well as volunteers.
Lynne Rhodes, executive director of Project Transformation of Central Texas, shared her advice for how students should present themselves from an employee perspective.
“Have a cover letter with a paragraph that gives us some insight as to who you are. What do you care about, what motivates you, a little paragraph that kind of introduces,” Rhodes said. “Come ready to have a conversation, so take the time to walk up to every table, shake the hand, and be prepared to introduce yourself and to ask some questions.”
Daniel Reeves, program director at Project Transformation of Central Texas, shared what expectations to have when looking for a potential employer.
“Have an open mind to adjust your expectations to explore what opportunities could help you if you are unsure,” Reeves said. “Also, have a growth mindset, expect growth out of the program, so you can build your soft skills.”
