Texas Wesleyan’s Student Government Association passed a bill on Thursday to encourage more students and faculty to get involved with the organization.

The SGA Participation Bill will give prizes to students and organizations that are present at the first 45 minutes of the weekly SGA meeting and attend a minimum of five meetings during the semester, said SGA President Abbey Borghee.

They must also be in good standing at Wesleyan and sign in at the beginning of a meeting they are attending, Borghee said.

This new bill is for advertisement purposes and to help bridge the communication between students and SGA, she said.

“There are eleven meetings left, but the bill will not go into effect until Sept. 17, 2015,” she said.

Prizes will be awarded as follows: For organizations: First place, $525; second, $425; third, $325; fourth, $225. For individuals, the prizes are first place, $200; second, $150; third, $100; and fourth, $50, Borgee said.

A tie will be resolved by the flip of a coin and will determine the outcome for organizations and individuals, Borghee said.

The SGA also passed a bill to run advertisements in The Rambler in the 14 remaining issues that will be published this semester and in spring 2016.

“We are excited about the partnership with The Rambler,” Borghee said.

The SGA also welcomed Dr. Twyla Miranda, director of the Doctor of Education Program.

Miranda said she was encouraged by SGA’s use of parliamentary procedures and Robert’s Rules of Order. The book is the standard manual for how to hold organizational meetings.
