Abbey Borghee banged the gavel for the last time on Monday as Student Government Association held its last official business meeting of the semester.
“It’s been an honor serving as your student body president,” Borghee said in her closing statement. “I want everyone in this room to understand that we’re leaving Texas Wesleyan better than we found it.”
Before saying their goodbyes, SGA members spent their last moments providing funding for student enrichment.
The SGA allocated $1,264.60 to provide various prizes for the Spring Carnival, including a Vizio Smart TV, assorted gift cards, a pair of Beats headphones, and mini refrigerator.
“The Spring Carnival is an event designed to celebrate the successes of a great academic year,” said SGA Treasurer Lyndsey Bessinger, who sponsored the Spring Carnival 2016 bill. “The SGA has helped contribute to this event for years and provided almost $3,000 last year.”
The SGA also allocated $896.99 to send two students to the Annual Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching, to be held in San Antonio over the summer.
“These two students will have the opportunity to present and attend sessions for professional development, network with pre-service and in-services teachers across the state and begin to develop leadership capacity as future educators,” said School of Education Representative Lizeth Menchaca, who sponsored the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching Bill.
Borghee, who graduates in May, said she is leaving SGA and Texas Wesleyan in good hands as she moves on to the next chapter of her life.
“I’m super pumped about the next administration!” she said. “We’ve got a lot done this year, but I cannot wait to see what you guys do next year. Wesleyan is truly a special place.”
