The Wesleyan softball team defeated the Tabor College Blue Jays in game two of a doubleheader at Sycamore Park on Feb. 15.
The Lady Rams made sure to bounce back from a frustrating game one against the Blue Jays which ended in a blowout, 2 – 9. Thanks to a struggling pitching staff that left runners on base and sloppy catching and throwing, the Blue Jays capitalized off the Lady Rams’ mistakes.
“Game one was frustrating because we didn’t really swing the hits we wanted together,” Junior accounting major Ashley Darilek said. “We left too many people on base, and I feel like we could’ve done a better job at that.”

Despite the struggles, a number of Lady Ram’s hitters played a crucial role in the doubleheader. Darilek finished the series with 4 hits, 4 runs scored, and 2 runner-base-ins (RBI’s). Haylie Delarosa, sophomore business major, also played a vital role in game two with a scoring run from pitcher Kylie Barnes’s RBI single. Delarosa said the team communicated better and overcame their struggles from game one.
“We worked through it together,” Delarosa said. “We talked to each other and communicated, and it helped us all out.”
Walking away with a victory, Head Softball Coach Shannon Gower said she was impressed with how the team stuck together. With Sooner Athletic Conference play coming up, the Lady Rams are taking things game by game.
“They’re staying together; their energy is good,” Coach Gowers said. “[The mindset going forward is] one inning at a time, one game at a time. Every opponent that we face is different. But obviously, we need to win.”
Earlier that morning, the Lady Ram’s softball families came together to throw their first tailgate party of the season.
